Wreck Diver & Peak Performance Buoyancy Courses in the Red Sea (Egypt)

The Red Sea's wreck diving reputation (Thistlegorm, Salem Express) draws divers straight to the Wreck Diver specialty, and buoyancy control is the other course that keeps coming up once divers are certified. Coverage isn't even across the coast: our tracked operators put Wreck Diver courses in both Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, but Peak Performance Buoyancy only in Sharm El Sheikh so far. We're not going to invent a Hurghada or Dahab listing to fill that gap, so the table below shows exactly what's tracked and where.

    PADI Wreck Diver course prices range EUR 245-250 across our two tracked operators, one in Sharm El Sheikh and one in Hurghada, close enough that base location, not price, is the real deciding factor. Peak Performance Buoyancy is EUR 65 at the one Sharm El Sheikh operator we track; if you're diving out of Hurghada or Dahab, check directly with a local operator since we don't yet have a tracked listing there.

Getting there

  • Fly to Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH) on the Sinai Peninsula, or Hurghada (HRG) on the mainland - both have direct charter and scheduled flights from Europe.
  • Marsa Alam (RMF) serves the south.
  • Dahab is reached by bus or taxi from Sharm (1.5 hr).
  • Each base has a distinct character, choose it before you book accommodation.
  • Check current government travel advisories for the Sinai region before travelling.

Minimum stay

4 nights (7+ for liveaboards to far sites)

Good for your first trip if

Open Water minimum for most sites. Advanced OW recommended for Ras Mohammed and liveaboard itineraries (current, depth). Thistlegorm is manageable for OW divers with a guide; interior penetration is Advanced. Hyperbaric chambers in Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada. Dahab's Blue Hole is dangerous, never attempt the Arch (56 m) without full technical training.

Know before you go

  • Well-equipped hyperbaric facilities in Sharm and Hurghada.
  • Dahab's Blue Hole has a disproportionate accident record, never push depth here, and avoid the Arch without full technical training.
  • Currents at Ras Mohammed and the Brothers can be unpredictable.
  • Drink only bottled water.
  • Sun protection on surface intervals is critical in summer months.

EUR 245 at our tracked Hurghada operator, versus EUR 250 at the Sharm El Sheikh operator we track. The two prices sit close enough that which base you're already diving from matters more than the course fee itself; check what wreck sites each operator actually runs trips to before deciding on price alone.

Is Peak Performance Buoyancy worth it, and where can I take it?

It's a short, low-cost specialty (EUR 65 at our tracked Sharm El Sheikh operator) that tunes trim and air consumption, useful before a liveaboard or wreck course where control in tight spaces or currents matters. We only track one operator offering it right now, in Sharm El Sheikh; it's a common enough PADI specialty that Hurghada and Dahab shops likely offer it too, just not ones in our current dataset.

We list what we've directly verified against an operator's own pricing, not every dive shop on the Red Sea coast. Three Red Sea operators are currently tracked; two of them offer a Wreck Diver course, one offers Peak Performance Buoyancy. More coverage gets added as we verify more operators.
