Advanced Open Water Course in Hurghada: Price and What's Included

Seven of our tracked Red Sea operators around Hurghada list a stand-alone Advanced Open Water course, all as a 2-day course, from EUR 250 to EUR 300. A fixed EUR 50 range means the details matter more than the headline: dive count (5 dives at two shops), whether equipment is included, and whether the operator's own all-in estimate sits well above the base price. Aquarius Red Sea doesn't list Advanced alone and sells it inside two packages.

    Dive Nemo Hurghada, Funnydivers and Tauchen Hurghada all list EUR 250; Tauchen Hurghada states 5 dives and lists PADI/SSI. Diamond Red Sea lists EUR 265, IDive Diving Center EUR 270 for 5 dives (estimated all-in EUR 365), White Dolphin Diving Center EUR 270 with equipment recorded as an extra, and Red Sea Diving School EUR 300. Aquarius Red Sea sells Advanced Open Water in a EUR 286 package with three diving days (6 dives), which excludes PADI certification fees and materials, and in a EUR 417 Open Water plus Advanced package.

Getting there

  • Fly to Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH) on the Sinai Peninsula, or Hurghada (HRG) on the mainland - both have direct charter and scheduled flights from Europe.
  • Marsa Alam (RMF) serves the south.
  • Dahab is reached by bus or taxi from Sharm (1.5 hr).
  • Each base has a distinct character, choose it before you book accommodation.
  • Check current government travel advisories for the Sinai region before travelling.

Minimum stay

4 nights (7+ for liveaboards to far sites)

Good for your first trip if

Open Water minimum for most sites. Advanced OW recommended for Ras Mohammed and liveaboard itineraries (current, depth). Thistlegorm is manageable for OW divers with a guide; interior penetration is Advanced. Hyperbaric chambers in Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada. Dahab's Blue Hole is dangerous, never attempt the Arch (56 m) without full technical training.

Know before you go

  • Well-equipped hyperbaric facilities in Sharm and Hurghada.
  • Dahab's Blue Hole has a disproportionate accident record, never push depth here, and avoid the Arch without full technical training.
  • Currents at Ras Mohammed and the Brothers can be unpredictable.
  • Drink only bottled water.
  • Sun protection on surface intervals is critical in summer months.
