Getting there

  • Fly into Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB), then a road transfer to Moalboal (roughly 3-3.5 hours).
  • Budget options combine a bus/jeepney to the Cebu South Bus Terminal then a Ceres bus (under ₱500 total); private or shared-van transfers (₱2,500-5,200) are faster and more common for divers arriving with gear.

Good for your first trip if

Open Water minimum for most sites. Pescador Island's deeper sections and current-exposed channel dives are best done Advanced or with an experienced local guide.

Know before you go

  • Most diving here is calm house-reef and moderate-depth diving well within recreational limits.
  • The nearest recompression chamber is in Cebu City, several hours by road, so shops brief conservatively on the deeper Pescador and technical-diving sites.
  • Most centres carry oxygen on site.

Getting there

  • Fly into Denpasar (DPS), Bali's main international airport.
  • Amed/Tulamben is a 1.5-2 hr drive northeast (private car or shared shuttle, no direct public transport).
  • Padangbai is closer, about 1.5 hr east, and doubles as the ferry port to Lombok and the Gili Islands.
  • Many divers do a one-way loop, arrive via Padangbai, dive Amed/Tulamben, then either return to the airport or continue the ferry onward.
  • No airport in either town.

3-4 nights to cover both areas properly

Good for your first trip if

Open Water minimum for Amed/Tulamben's sheltered sites and Padangbai's Blue Lagoon. Padangbai's outer pinnacles (Tepekong, Mimpang, Biaha) are Advanced Open Water minimum in practice, most operators require prior drift-dive experience given the current and downwelling risk. Nearest hyperbaric chamber is in Sanur, roughly 2 hr from Amed by road.

USAT Liberty Wreck
