Cozumel Dive Prices 2026: Wall Dives to Open Water Certification

Cozumel sits mid-range for Caribbean diving: not the cheapest in the region, but consistently below the all-inclusive-resort end of it, and our four tracked operators (Cozumel Diving, Blue Note Scuba, Dive Paradise, Barefoot Dive Center, and ScubaTony) show why. A single two-tank boat dive runs USD 115-135, and a full week of diving plus cenote trips through Barefoot Dive Center's package tier runs up to USD 827. Certification is the wider spread: PADI Open Water runs USD 400-650 depending on operator, more than double between the cheapest and priciest we track for the same course.

Getting there

  • Fly direct to Cozumel International Airport (CZM), direct connections from major US cities (Houston, Dallas, Miami, Chicago) and via Cancun.
  • Alternatively: fly to Cancun (CUN), bus or colectivo to Playa del Carmen (1 hr, ~$5), then ferry to Cozumel (45 min, ~$18 each way).
  • Ferries run every 1–2 hours until 10 pm.
  • On the island, taxis and scooter rental cover all the ground you need, the island is flat and roads are good.

Good for your first trip if

Open Water minimum for most sites. Advanced OW recommended for Punta Sur, Maracaibo, and deep Colombia dives (strong current, depth). The island has a hyperbaric chamber (Buceo Medico Mexicano, staffed 24/7), a major safety advantage over most dive destinations. All boats must dive with certified guides inside the Marine Park. A park fee (~$3–5 USD/day per diver) applies, usually included in your package.

Know before you go

  • One of the safest dive destinations logistically, on-island hyperbaric chamber, mandatory certified guides in the Marine Park, and all boats carry oxygen.
  • Main risks are depth temptation on the deep walls and current surprises at Punta Sur and Maracaibo.
  • Tap water is not drinkable; use filtered or bottled water.
  • Bring mosquito repellent for evenings.

Does Cozumel diving include cenote dives?

Not by default -- most day-trip and course products we track are reef and wall dives on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef itself. Barefoot Dive Center's multi-day Reef & Cenote packages (USD 354-827) are the ones that explicitly bundle both in one price; check a specific product's inclusions before assuming a cenote stop is part of a standard boat dive.

Is Cozumel a good budget dive destination?

Mid-range, not budget -- our tracked destination note puts a full diving day (two-tank dive, equipment, guide, park fee) at USD 80-100 all-in, with street food and mid-range accommodation bringing a full day to USD 120-180. That's reasonable for Caribbean diving of this quality, but well above Southeast Asia's budget destinations.
