Getting there

  • Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB) in Coxen Hole has direct flights from several US gateways (Miami, Houston, Atlanta) and connections via San Pedro Sula.
  • A flat-rate taxi (around $25 for up to four people) covers the airport transfer to West End or West Bay, the two main dive-tourism areas.

Open Water minimum for most reef sites. Mary's Place, drift dives and deeper wrecks are best done as Advanced or with an experienced guide.

Know before you go

  • Roatan has its own hyperbaric recompression chamber, unlike the smaller Bay Islands, which is a meaningful safety advantage for divers pushing depth or drift limits.
  • Most sites are calm reef/wall diving well within recreational limits; the current-exposed south-side and wreck sites are where shops brief more conservatively.
