A laid-back Sinai shore-diving town, calmer and cheaper than Sharm or Hurghada's resort strips.
Dahab grew out of a Bedouin fishing village rather than a resort development, and it still feels that way: low-rise guesthouses, beachfront cafes with cushions instead of chairs, and a shore-diving culture where you walk to the reef instead of boarding a boat. It draws a different crowd than Hurghada or Sharm: backpackers, freedivers, long-stay digital nomads, and divers who want the Red Sea without the all-inclusive resort scene. The desert mountains of the Sinai interior are visible from the water, a genuinely striking backdrop.
Most of Dahab's signature sites are entered straight off the beach into a shallow lagoon before the reef drops away, so conditions are calm and predictable close to shore. The Canyon and Blue Hole reach recreational-tec depths quickly for divers who want to go deeper; the reef flat itself stays gentle and beginner-friendly. Visibility is consistently good, if usually a step below Hurghada's open-water sites since there's less current to keep the shallows swept clear.

Diveable year-round, and unlike Hurghada most of Dahab's famous sites are shore dives, so there's no boat-swell factor to worry about. Oct–May keeps daytime desert heat manageable between dives; Jun–Sep is superb underwater but very hot on the surface. Winter (Dec–Feb) water drops into the low 20s°C, worth a 5mm wetsuit even for otherwise warm-water divers.

Dahab isn't a big-pelagic destination the way Hurghada's offshore reefs or the Brothers liveaboard route can be; its reputation is built on macro life and dramatic underwater topography instead. The reef flats and drop-offs around town are dense with moray eels, lionfish, nudibranchs, and reef fish, and the shallow lagoon at Eel Garden lives up to its name. Dolphins are seen periodically further along the coast at Sha'ab, though not on a reliable schedule. What draws most divers here is the terrain itself: the Blue Hole's sheer walls, the Canyon's narrow swim-through, and the general ease of just walking into the water and dropping onto a healthy reef without a boat.

Dahab's calm, current-light shallows are some of the best macro-hunting grounds in the Red Sea.

A near-circular sinkhole dropping past 100m, entered from a shallow reef rim just metres from the beach. The rim and shallow walls are a spectacular dive for any certified diver; the deep Arch swim-through is Advanced/technical-only.

A narrow underwater canyon with a shallow sandy entrance opening into dramatic fissure walls. A classic Dahab dive for the topography, with sections suited to both beginner and advanced divers.
Depth5–18 m
A sandy channel a short walk from town, named for its resident garden eel colony. Shallow and calm, popular for both training dives and relaxed macro diving.
Depth5–20 m
Dahab's default training and check-dive site, a shallow reef directly off the main promenade. Most Open Water courses run their first open-water dives here.
Depth5–25 m
A relaxed shore site north of the main promenade with scattered coral heads and sandy patches, a quieter alternative to the busier central sites.
Fly into Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH), about 1.5-2 hours by road transfer to Dahab. Cairo (CAI) is also an option with a longer desert-road transfer (roughly 6-7 hours), used mainly by travellers combining Dahab with the pyramids or St. Catherine's Monastery. No commercial airport in Dahab itself.

Dahab has ATMs, pharmacies, supermarkets, and a wide range of dive shops and guesthouses concentrated along the promenade. Less resort infrastructure than Sharm el-Sheikh or Hurghada, so expect a small-town feel rather than an all-inclusive strip. Power and water are generally reliable in the main tourist area.
Mobile data coverage is solid in town; WiFi is widely available at cafes, guesthouses, and dive shops, and Dahab has a long-standing reputation as a digital-nomad-friendly spot.
